Q&A WITH SEAN KOW | SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Author: Milly Ashworth/Sunday, January 24, 2021/Categories: Quinton Anthony

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND.

Like many others out there, while finishing high school I was never really sure on what I should pursue going into University or later on as a career. I completed my Bachelor of Business and Commerce, Accounting in 2010 although while studying I realised I lacked a passion for the profession. I joined Quinton Anthony 7 years ago as an Office Administrator and found a great environment with quality people that I can call a home and family. I have since progressed through the organisation, working as a Candidate Manager, Associate and now a Senior Associate in executive search.

WHAT SKILLS DO YOU BRING TO THE QA TEAM?
I possess a strong balance of EQ with an analytical mindset, leading to a well-informed and thoroughly researched approach to identifying candidates and talent that best align with an organisation, both from a cultural and experience perspective. I have a genuine care and passion for the work that I do which in turn provides a drive to push for a positive outcome for candidate and organisation alike.

WHAT ARE THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE QA?
Family. Genuine. Passionate.

WHAT SHOULD A CANDIDATE EXPECT FROM QA?
Candidates should expect an honest and transparent, heavily specialized and entrenched in the construction industry leading to a well-developed spectrum of market knowledge across Construction, Engineering and Property into the industry’s top tier organisations.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF WORKING AT QA?
The calibre of people at QA have allowed me the ability to grow and develop, both from a professional standpoint as well as personally. We are provided training and development in areas that we choose to help benefit our own personal learnings. I would not be half the person I am today without everything I have learnt from QA as a whole, but from Sergio Floyd in particular. There is also a strong sense of fun and camaraderie, that helps make some of the inevitable mundane moments tolerable.

HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR CAREER AT QA WITH LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Having large issues with obesity when I was younger, I have since managed to undergo heavy lifestyle changes which help me lead a much healthier and active life. I am at the gym at least 4 times a week and while they were closed, I have also picked up running as a hobby and now aim to run for 30km a week. I am an avid Liverpool FC fan but alongside that any sport you can name I will play and watch.

WHAT’S ON YOUR WISHLIST FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS WITH QA?
For QA to continue the trajectory that its on, and to be able to grow and develop alongside it.

WHAT DOES BEING A ‘TRUSTED ADVISOR’ MEAN TO YOU?
QA’s reputation is built upon our market knowledge, honesty and credibility in the industry. To candidates and clients alike, we provide an honest guidance and feedback, regardless of the situation to provide them with considered counsel. Being a ‘trusted advisor’ is to not operate based on our personal gain, but on the basis that we truly wish the best for those we work with – this is only achieved when there is the synergy between both (at times) conflicting parties.

BIGGEST PET PEEVE?
People that do not return shopping trolleys to the designated spot – worse yet, leaving it in the middle of a parking spot.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR ANYONE WANTING TO GET INTO THIS INDUSTRY?
Executive search is a great sector to work in, offering you the ability to connect with – if building relationships and connections with new people is high on your agenda it is worth pursuing. You are given the opportunity make a meaningful and impactful contribution to someone’s livelihood which cannot be said for many other professions.
