TELL US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND.
I have over 15 years' experience in property and construction recruitment and talent acquisition, spanning across agency, RPO, and in-house environments in Australia and Asia. I enjoy leading and coaching teams and stakeholders through change and driving best practice recruitment strategies to suit client business needs. What I enjoy most is partnering with key stakeholders at all levels; being a trusted business partner providing strategic talent advice that produces outstanding commercial outcomes.
WHAT INITIALLY ATTRACTED YOU TO JOIN QA?
QA has a unique position in the market given their diverse offering across executive search, professional recruitment, leadership advisory, and organisational consulting. The breadth of the business coupled with the years of expertise of its people really drew me in; the opportunity to learn and grow with this team was of great appeal.
WHAT SKILLS DO YOU BRING TO THE QA TEAM?
I bring a unique and credible skill set having had long term experience in the property and construction sector, but also having worked in a variety of businesses from a talent perspective. I’m excited by the prospect of understanding client challenges and being able to provide effective solutions leveraging the experience I have had in their situation.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR CAREER AT QA WITH LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I have a young family consisting of my wife, a 9-year-old son, and a recent addition of a Jack Russell terrier. We are an active family, always out and about on weekends be it for my son’s sport (of which there are many!), finding the best coffee or new bakery, and exploring a bush walk or beach around Sydney.
IF YOU COULD INSTANTLY BECOME AN EXPERT IN SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Playing the guitar.
WHAT DOES BEING A 'TRUSTED ADVISOR' MEAN TO YOU?
Simply, someone that works collaboratively with their client as an extension of their team. Someone a client goes to for their opinion, who is informative, and can help provide advice and guidance to solve client problems with people.
BIGGEST PET PEEVE?
Sydney's weekend drivers!
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF PROFESSIONALLY IN 5 YEARS?
Progressing my career in a role I’m passionate about whilst working with equally passionate colleagues – and having fun doing so.
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED, AND HOW HAS IT IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?
Probably two pieces of advice stand out; the first being whatever you do, do it well, or don’t do it at all.
The second one is to control the controllable – identify what parts of a task you can influence. Then, prioritise your actions, efforts, and behaviours to change what is within your control.
NAME FOUR PEOPLE, LIVING OR DEAD, THAT YOU WOULD HAVE OVER FOR DINNER.
Toughest question yet! These probably sound cliched but:
-
Ricky Gervais
-
Michael Jordan
-
Sir David Attenborough
-
Robin Williams
WHAT'S ONE PASSION PROJECT OF YOURS?
Ever since I was around them as a kid, be it from time spent on family farms or with my father being in the military, I have had a passion for old Land Rovers. I’d love to one day be able to do one up and restore it.
