TELL US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND.
As a keen sportsman, I ventured into Triathlons back in the 80’s competing around Australia and the world with the pinnacle of my career competing in the 1987 Hawaii Ironman. I then started playing beach volleyball for many years playing on the local circuit before moving into my current sport of Stand Up Paddle boarding which I have been doing for the last 6 years. In addition, I have been in the recruitment industry for over 25 years placing executives and senior management within the infrastructure, engineering, utilities and construction sectors.
WHAT INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE & NETWORK DO YOU BRING TO QA?
My network is very broad and quite extensive around Australia within the consulting, contracting and engineering sectors so I can draw on that industry knowledge and continue those strong relationships in my new capacity at QA. Having been in the industry for a few years now, I think I have a strong understanding of the markets I operate in and the people associated within those markets.
WHAT SKILLS DO YOU BRING TO THE QA TEAM?
I would like to think that I can add some further value with their push into the Infrastructure sector. QA are making some great headway in this space, particularly in rail with some very senior appointments to date and with me joining the team, can only help our push in this sector.
HOW DO YOU SEE THE EXECUTIVE SEARCH MARKET IN SYDNEY?
It is always evolving. The client either has a strong understanding of the search process or they don’t. Those that do, know the value a specialist search firm can bring in terms of presenting high quality candidates, the expediency of the recruitment process and the exhaustive research required to identify, attract and eventually place talent.
WHAT ARE THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE QA?
Focused, passionate and professional.
WHAT INITIALLY ATTRACTED YOU TO JOIN QA?
The people, systems, a strong understanding of the search process and the supportive and engaging nature of the team. Very refreshing.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF WORKING AT QA?
Flexible working hours, inclusive and engaging environment, very professional and they know how to have fun.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE NORTHERN REGION TEAM IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
To help grow and develop the Northern Region team with a focus on the Infrastructure and Government sectors with like-minded and committed individuals who like to make a difference to the search industry.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR CAREER AT QA WITH LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I like to be busy so I just make it work. I love getting up early to exercise so I am either in the gym or on the water. When I get in the office, I know I can focus on my work 100% without any distractions and fully focused on being available for my clients and candidates.
WHAT’S ON YOUR WISH LIST FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS WITH QA?
To help QA be successful in their own path as a specialist search firm that really makes a difference.
WHAT DOES BEING A ‘TRUSTED ADVISOR’ MEAN TO YOU?
Always to be honest, professional, empathetic, a good sounding board as well as a mentor.
IF YOU COULD EAT ONE MEAL, EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
That is a hard one. I love Sushi, apple and rhubarb crumble and sticky date pudding!
BIGGEST PET PEEVE?
When I don’t get a response when I leave a message!
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR ANYONE WANTING TO GET INTO THIS INDUSTRY?
You have to love meeting and working with people. Making a difference to a company’s organisation or to a person’s life is really impactful and very rewarding.
NAME FOUR PEOPLE LIVING OR DEAD THAT YOU WOULD HAVE FOR DINNER.
Richard Branson, Grant & Elaine Cardone, Kai Lenny and The Rock.
WHAT’S ONE PASSION PROJECT OF YOURS?
I love to work with people on their health and fitness. I am very active in the Stand Up Paddling community and really enjoy imparting my knowledge of the sport with training and technique.
