To celebrate National Volunteer Week, we wanted to feature an Australian not for profit organisation that we champion and support.
James Thomas is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Feel the Magic. James and his team provide bereavement education and support for Australian children and their families to support overall mental health and emotional well-being following the death of a close family member or guardian.
James took the time to sit down with Warren Rushbrook to talk about the work that Feel the Magic does and the critical role volunteers play in supporting the organisation. They also discussed how proud James is of a newly launched online platform, specifically developed to provide support to bereaved children despite the restrictions placed on operations due to COVID-19. This platform will enable the reach of Feel the Magic to extend to many more children in the future.
Warren himself has been mentoring bereaved children at Camp Magic for a year now. Every child that attends Camp Magic is matched to an adult mentor to support them through a program specifically designed to help them gain tools to deal with their grief, as well as meet many new friends who have had a similar experience. Most importantly they learn that they are not alone.
